Fast becoming a caffeine addict. And not just the cafe lattes made by real baristas. The lack of sleep (yes, 6-7 hours is a lack of sleep...) has made me turn to instant granulated coffee. The only problem is it doesn't taste as good as the lattes. So, come breakfast time, I think: "Ooh, let's try coffee with milo/ coffee powder in oats/ coffee powder in cereal and milk." Soon, if this continues uncontrolled, it'll be coffee in my porridge, coffee in my rice, coffee in my noodles, coffee in my soup, coffee in my meat, coffee in my blood...

Watched Le Concert with housemate on Monday and it's really good. Strengthened my love of classical music. Found a new favourite piece: Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, 1st Movt.

Played by David Oistrakh, violin virtuoso. Really a virtuoso, man.

Women compare. We compete. We covet.

And we grieve God when we do.

I never thought I'd say this, but now that I'm going to be away for a year... I am really going to miss melbourne when I leave. The people, of course, but also the place. It's hard to explain to people who are back home, but after all, this has been my home too for the larger part of the last two and a half years of my life.

Saw this on Michelle's blog and it's so true I had to reblog it...

“So many times in standing for Truth we have felt utterly alone. If we hadn’t allow God to give each of us a strong backbone and prepare us to stand apart from the crowd, we surely would have crumbled and compromised a long time ago.

Dont despise alone-ness and loneliness. Instead, allow it to chase you into the ready arms of your King. If you turn to Him instead of trying to fill the void with other people or other things, you will find that He is ready to meet your every need. You’ll also discover that He may be using loneliness to prepare and equip you to be a leader, to stand firm when everyone’s courage is failing and to live for the applause of your King alone. “

“The longing to be with the one we love is precisely the longing we shld have to be with Jesus, our true Bridegroom for eternity. marriage is meant for every child of God. whether or not we enter into an earthly marriage, we will enter into a sacred marriage covenant with our eternal Husband the moment we give Him our life.

Your longing to be with an earthly lover may be overwhelming at times. But until your heart is consumed with love and longing for your heavenly Bridegroom, you’ll miss out on the greatest love story of all time. Jesus Christ is not meant to be our stand-in until we meet our spouse. Rather, Jesus Christ is our spouse– our Bridegroom, our Husband, the Lover of our soul. Earthly marriage is only meant to give us a small glimpse of a much more important marriage: our heavenly marriage. Our longing to be with our future spouse should pale in comparison to our longing to be with our true Bridegroom. Don’t miss out on a divine romance because you are so caught up in the earthly one. “

Interesting post about family vs work.

"he decided that the most important thing to him was not a good salary, or a prestigious job... He decided his family was way more important than any job."

"Of course, it’s important to care about your work, but how much stress and worry is really necessary?"

“It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”

Through perseverance the turtle reached the ark. Are you willing to persevere until you get to your intended destination? They say the entire value of the postage stamp consist in its ability to stick to something until it gets there. Be like the postage stamp; finish the race that you’ve started.

Interesting article on Singaporeans and their world views...

"It was not that I thought little of the rest of the world or other people; it was that I was so ensconced in my cocoon, I just thought little of anything outside my own zone. 'Snow? Yes, nice.' 'Starvation in Ethiopia? Donate $50.' The wonders of the world we lived in, the sufferings and joys of those who shared this earth were just academic knowledge to me, voraciously devoured for my essays or to hold intelligent conversations at dinner parties."

"I realised it was not the world and other people who were limited in their intellect, in their determination, in their resourcefulness; it was me and my world views which were limited. I also know full well that if I had stayed in Singapore, in my cushy job, comfortable in my Bukit Timah home, I would have remained the same - self-sufficient. I had always believed that if I put my mind to it, I could achieve anything. For example, I used to look at sick people and root: 'Fight with all your willpower, and you will recover.' And when they did not, I'd think they had failed themselves. I, like Ms Leong, believed 'mental dexterity equated strength of character and virtue'."

So true. I think I only realised it when I went overseas to study. I don't think it's any fault of the Singaporeans or the government, it's just the way things turned out. Like how they always liken the government to an over-protective father or mother, it's no wonder the children (us SGeans) are so sheltered in our ivory towers...

I wanna go shopping for clothes!! But must resist the urge to buy..... Too many clothes to pack up before I leave in June. Maybe window shopping is good enough. And unless I see something that's really super nice... Hmm.
